Well, I don't know about yast. I rarely use yast. It isn't Yast that determines the initrd and what goes in there, its the settings for Dracut and mkinitrd. If you are "going stock", Linda, then you should be using Dracut to build the initrd. One of its config files can set the required module packages. You can simply specify "lvm" and that will tell dracut to include all the stuff necessary.
