Hi,
I have a couple of external tape drives. one SAS and the other SCSI.
I do not wish to have these powered on at all times because they have very loud fans.
I can turn them on and off easily as the drives have a power switch I can flip on when required, but the drives are not automatically detected again until reboot.
lsscsi does not show them but after reboot it does.
How can I configure the system to automatically re-detect these drives? Or perhaps a command that can be run before the backup script starts?
It's called "rescan-scsi-bus.sh" - from sg3_utils. Should be installed by default. Run it with '-?' for the usage text.
SCSI was never designed for hotplug, so attempt to do it with legacy parallel SCSI may vary. It may work but may also crash your system (my favorite case was SCSI chip going amok and overwriting RAM with zeroes using DMA transfer). -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
