Huh? How are you going to automatically boot into Windows after hibernating it when using Linux bootloader? I do not see any difference here except you are less likely to accidentally corrupt Windows filesystem in this case.
Modern systems are capable of using firmware managed hibernation. The
Firmware managed hibernation was possible (and in effect the only possibility) about 15 to 20 years ago (not sure when I met it first), before operating systems started to support it natively.
bootloader isn't a factor. The firmware recovers the hibernation image from a dedicated partition to RAM, and resumes. It's not a cold boot based resume.
Yes. That is how it worked in the past. I am interested which of modern computers do it; could you give reference(s)?
But this is a fragmented implementation to be sure, not every manufacturer is using it I suspect. I also don't know what the default behaviors are.
Probably the most reliable way to handle hibernation is via the firmware; even single system booting. But for multibooting it'd be even more reliable.
