Luuk,

Where can I find more info and examples of the usage of \, or is it
possibly a configuration setting you have that I don't or vice versa?

Interested

If you type (without the sinfle-quotes)
echo "abc" "def"
The computer outputs: abc def

If you type (and hit the enter-key for every # ):
echo "abc" \#
"def"#
The computer outputs: abc def

So, the combination of a '\' followed by an enter is ignored.

While this last statement is on two lines of your screen,
it is still ONE (command)line to your computer.
