Multiseat? Explain why a distro aimed primarily at users needs multiseat? Seems very few people use opensuse as a server (well, 'cept me -- but I know I don't need multiseat). So why does anyone on this list need multiseat?
We do. openSUSE is not only for the desktop.
And multiseat worked perfectly under the old init system. I know, because I worked on machines with both BSD init and SysV init, with anywhere from a dozen to hundreds of simultaneous logins. Multiseat was NEVER a problem. Hell, I implemented multiseat on a lowly 8-bit Motorola 6809 microcomputer with 64k of memory, and that included interprocess communication (i.e. pipes and sockets). OH, and I did it in 4 weeks. So, really, it doesn't matter. 1970's era init is capable of multiseat, regardless of whether Linda sees a need for multiseat in opensuse or not, and regardless of Damiean's naive understanding of multiseat, there is absolutely ZERO connection between mutiseat and any suposed need for systemd. We've had multiseat for decades. Damian is just so inexperienced that he doesn't understand that one of the primary goals of Unix was to allow a multi-user computer to be used by those multiple users, simultaneously, as if each one of them was working on the computer alone, or interacting with other users (according to their wishes). -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
