Silly mistake. I wrote (using dd) LIVE CD image to flash formatted as FAT disk before copying data from it. Can I recover the data from the flash disk? I tried testdisk, bud with no success... Any idea welcomed and appreciated. ;-) Have a nice day, Vojtech
What was overwritten by the CD-image is gone. You can theoretically retrieve those files saved _after_ however much space the CD-image needs. Say, you have a 2GB stick and a 650MB image, you might find files in the last 1350GB. But that depends on where those files where. FAT fills the FS from front to back. So there's a good chance your files are gone for good. To recover what may have not been overwritten by the CD-image, grab an image of the rest of the stick, skipping the image. CDSIZE=$(du -m CD-image.iso) dd if=/dev/USBSTICK of=USBSTICK.fat32 bs=1M skip="$CDSIZE" Then you can try with e.g. photorec to recover files in the USBSTICK.fat32 image.
