Shutdown is pretty fast this days, and with SSD storing RAM should be fast enough to appear as lightning fast.
My machine takes about a minute to hibernate. I have 8 GiB of RAM, plus 1.6 GB of swap in use (and 2.6 GiB of free ram, plus 2.2 of cache). So there is a lot to write to disk.
