Hi. I did some research and found this thread http://forum.paldo.org/index.php?action=topic&topicnr=725&pagenr=1 Where people were talking about this failure and one said the new nfs versions moved from portmap to rpcbind. He also said that "OpenSuSE 11.3 --- uses nfs 1.2.1 with rpcbind" I did not see any reference to this on http://doc.opensuse.org/documentation/html/openSUSE/opensuse-reference/cha.n... or on the nfsserver script. On this script I just see: ### BEGIN INIT INFO # Provides: nfsserver # Required-Start: $network $named $portmap # Required-Stop: $network $portmap # Should-Start: ypbind krb5kdc # Should-Stop: ypbind krb5kdc # Default-Start: 3 5 # Default-Stop: 0 1 2 6 # Short-Description: Start the kernel based NFS daemon ### END INIT INFO So I think the documentation has to be updated and so the nfsserver script, to reflect the change and to make clear that you need to start rpcbind in order to get nfsserver working. Best regards, Carlos.

Hi.
I´m trying to run the nfsserver daemon on two hosts and it won´t start.
Related info: OpenSuse 12.1 nfs-kernel-server-1.2.6-2.5.1.x86_64
When I try to start it we get this on the log:
Feb 11 05:14:09 diana startproc: startproc: Empty pid file /var/run/rpc.statd.pid for /usr/sbin/rpc.statd Feb 11 05:14:09 diana rpc.statd[30082]: Version 1.2.6 starting Feb 11 05:14:09 diana rpc.statd[30082]: Flags: TI-RPC Feb 11 05:14:09 diana rpc.mountd[30079]: mountd: could not create listeners Feb 11 05:14:09 diana rpc.statd[30082]: failed to create RPC listeners, exiting Feb 11 05:14:09 diana startproc: startproc: exit status of parent of /usr/sbin/rpc.statd: 1 Feb 11 05:14:09 diana nfsserver[30058]: Starting kernel based NFS server: idmapd mountd statd..failed Feb 11 05:14:09 diana systemd[1]: nfsserver.service: control process exited, code=exited status=7 Feb 11 05:14:09 diana systemd[1]: Unit nfsserver.service entered failed state.
I took a look inside the /etc/init.d/nfsserver script and saw how the rpc.statd is called and tried to run it by hand
diana:/etc/init.d # /usr/sbin/rpc.statd --no-notify
and those lines where recorded on the logfile:
Feb 11 05:47:17 diana rpc.statd[15023]: Version 1.2.6 starting Feb 11 05:47:17 diana rpc.statd[15023]: Flags: TI-RPC Feb 11 05:47:17 diana rpc.statd[15023]: failed to create RPC listeners, exiting
Am I missing something? Please, how can I fix this?
Kind regards, Carlos.
