But, just as an aside, what you just said about not handling the drives yourself: doesn't this introduce some question about the information contained on the HDD(s) which you use in your legal connected forensic work when someone else had worked on the HDD and therefore could have added to or removed material from an HDD used as evidence?
I've worked with 3 or 4 HDD recovery firms over the years. All of them offer a full chain-of-custody service for issues involving potential evidence. I currently use Seagate Recovery Services out of Chicago. They charge an extra $300 to do the chain-of-custody paperwork which means the cheapest recovery is about $1100 if you need a chain-of-custody. To date, I have a much bigger issue getting Cell Phones repaired. There are lots of retail stores that do it around Atlanta, but none offer chain-of-custody services. I've had to have them let me in the back room and watch the repair work so that I would be the one that would testify if need be.
