I have used xine to watch digital TV (dvb) for years - until I installed 12.2. While xine plays DVDs it will not provide TV viewing.
When I start xine I get an error message stating, "There is no MRL" and then, if I continue by clicking on the DVB tab I get an additional message, "Sorry, no valid channels.conf found" - which I *know* exists as I have been using them in 12.1 and they are also used in VLC (which I use successfully).
Anyone have xine working for TV viewing or have any idea what the problem may be to cause the above error messages? I have searched around but only found some info which goes back to 2010 and concerns Fedora and Red Hat (and the files these refer to are not installed or belong in openSUSE).
Hi Basil,
I started using "tvtime" years ago when it was the only Linux player I could find that would work well with my old WinTV (Hauppague 848). I know, it's old, but it still works with my cable provider, who at least at this time, still sends analog channels.

Hi Lew, I used tvtime many a moon ago when I have a very basic analog capture card but even with that I found that tvtime didn't have the features I needed and so I went over to xine -- after which I then discovered VLC which is what I now use 99% of the time. Reason why I am interested in xine is that it has an easy way to zoom the picture to make it fit the full screen. There are some DVD films which don't quite fully fill the screen and xine has the ability to zoom the picture evenly and simultaneously in both the horizontal and vertical directions to fill the screen. With VLC one has to expand either hor. or vert. one pixel at a time - which is a pain :-( . (Just additional information: we have gone digital with no analog transmissions at all so tvtime couldn't be used anyway.)
