Well, the last major change was going from KDE 4.8.5 to 4.9.1. But how would that affect MS Windows? The tail command similar results as follows. Tried it with an audio CD, an oS 11.4 install DVD, and an avi movie CD. Checked the connections, all is firmly plugged.
Hi Albert, I once had a similar experience but the system and drive were fresh 'out of the factory box' new. It took a lot of research to determine that the installed DVD/RW drive's firmware was obsolete. It worked fine under Windows and Linux after I downloaded and installed the updated code. I've also had the experiences of optical drives registering properly after boot and, from all indications, appearing to work with the sole exceptions being that either one of the laser LEDs had failed, in one case causing writes to not actually burn to disc and in the other perfectly good discs not being able to be read. And, as has already been mentioned, check for dust! :-) Good luck! Carl -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
