I use Amarok to organize my mp3 language recordings and ever since I upgraded to KDE 4.8.2 on both my 64 bit machines, it will not play mp3 files. It does play on my 32 bit desktop. I have since upgraded to KDE 4.8.3 and installed the patches, but it still does not play. I have gone to settings -> configure Amarok -> configure Phonon and tested the sound playback hitting the test button, as you can see in the screen shot on this link. When I hit test, the test sound plays perfectly, but the regular play button on an mp3 file (or any file for that matter) through Amarok will not play. The sliding progress marker for the file indicates that Amarok is playing the sound file, but no sound comes out of the speakers. http://picpaste.com/konquerorimg5-pJfrxugy.jpg I ran pavucontrol while playing, and there is no indication of output when the sound file is playing in Amarok. However, when I play the test sound on configure Phonon, there is sound through the speakers and an indication of sound output in pavucontrol. The files all play in VLC, banshee, totem, kaffeine, sm player, and just about any other application. Has anyone else had this problem? -- G.O.
