Hi All,
Is there anyone that can elaborate on the sequence of events that take place when removing and re-inserting a had disk? Specifically how can I send a signal to the kernel that a disk has been removed and re-inserted with out actually doing so!
I am trying to overcome an issue with the "secure-erase" of an ssd. Currently I need to physically remove and re-insert the disk in order to "un-freeze" it before I can issue the security-erase command. So far the only way I can find of unfreezing the disk is to either remove and re-insert the device or power cycle the 5V! The latter is less than ideal and the former a non-starter in the app I have in mind.
Be aware that there is a load of current activity in this area and a regression bug in hotplug handling induced by changes for power management. You might want to read the thread at http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-ide/msg43217.html and previous threads on related topics. IIRC in that thread there are also examples of some command-line ways to tell the kernel the kind of things you're interested in. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
