Can you right click and then choose 'Desktop Settings' or 'Folder View Settings' Then from there select 'Folder' from layout. Does that solve the problem?

I right click on the desktop and get a menu that does not have any of this on it. What should I be clicking on?
What exactly do you get then?
Maybe you should try "killall nautilus"
Corrected the subject for you
Anders
Hi Anders et al,
When I click on the desktop I get the menu with run command, add widgit, etc. What I want (ie what I had) is just the desktop with columns of icons on the left. I rebooted so the "killall nautilus" command should not be needed, right?
Thanks,
JIM
Hi Jim; What Anders meant was to click on the actual desktop, not the desktop widget in the upper right corner.
