Hello!
Is it possible to install 2 or more kernels in openSUSE? Yesterday I tried new kernel 3.2 from TW (Tumbleweed) and got problem. I couldn't load openSUSE. So, I used live CD to downgrade kernel. If had old and new kernels both, I could have chosen old kernel in grub menu and loaded openSUSE successful.
Thank you.
Hi, yes it is possible to have multiple kernels displayed.
Go to Kmenu (linux icon on lower left of kicker panel, if you are using kde desktop)> Applications> System> File Manager> File Manager-Super User Mode.
Look in Root> /etc/zypp/zypp.conf
Find this line
# multiversion = provides:multiversion(kernel)
Either remove the # at the beginning of the line, or do as I do like this:
# multiversion = provides:multiversion(kernel) multiversion = provides:multiversion(kernel)
Save the modified /etc/zypp/zypp.conf file.
When you reboot, you will have multiple kernels available to select from in grub.
Mark
Just changing that line will _not_ automatically give you multiple kernels on a reboot, you have to install another kernel for that. I use: multiversion = provides:multiversion(kernel) multiversion.kernels = latest,latest-1,running to limit the number of kernels kept on the system. -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
