Hi
I don't know if anybody else has experienced something like this. But please chime in if you have any idea or information.
My otherwise very nice and rather new HP ProBook 4720 has a serious problem with wifi.
It gave up on my home net (very old 802.11A/B) It can see it on the iwconfig level, but quickly diconnects.
At work there's another net (802.11.g?) and it connects. But it loses connection several times a day, and will only reconnect if I disable and enable wireless.
The Probook has a RT3090 chip, and rt2860sta is automatically used. There's a wifi button on the keyboard, but it never changes color.
I _think_ that the problems started about 1-2 weeks ago. At least I know that the home net worked in the beginning. I'm not sure if I did something, if it's an effect of upgrading something (kernel, e.g.) or what.
It's OpenSuse 11.3 64 bit.
Kaare,
Which kernel are you running? When did you do your last kernel update? With my
11.3 laptop (atheros wireless), I would experience lockups when then driver
loaded. This bug was apparently fixed:
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=628166
But I haven't confirmed. I switched to 2.6.35 when it was in kernel/HEAD. I am
not familiar with your chip, so I can't give specific help.
After seeing the disconnect with iwconfig, can you still see the AP? Try using
either:
wlanconfig
