I've been running KDE4 with Suse 11.2 for some months now, with no problems. Yesterday, the background to my screen suddenly went black. Open windows were unaffected, but I could see my theme, the task manager, etc. I couldn't open any programs other than the ones already open (and ones that they launch).
I have similar issues. Originally, I thought it was because the installs of 11.2 were done as an update of an earlier openSUSE. Then it was thought that doing the update of 11.2 during the install caused the problem. Just today, an 11.2 system was installed fresh (without update) fresh and I have these sorts of 'black' problems. An additional thing that always happens is that the Desktop folder is not quite right. The window title bar is drawn, as well as the icons. But the window border is not present. It is like the window is merged with the background. This window cannot be selected or moved (with the desktop unlocked). Is the task bar ok? Are any icons black with black text?
This problem was system-wide, in that it affects all accounts on my machine.
Does this apply to root? Oddly, my 'black problem' never seems to apply to root. For me, the issue has never been resolved. -- Roger Oberholtzer OPQ Systems / Ramböll RST Ramböll Sverige AB Krukmakargatan 21 P.O.
