Hi, I decided to upgrade from Opensuse 11.1 to 11.3 on my Toshiba U505-S2950 laptop. I have completed the installation with kde 4 but can't get my wireless to work.
I installed the Realtek linux wireless driver for the Realtek rtl8192se as I did in OS-11.1, but the wireless won't work. I checked that the kernel module is loaded using
~lsmod | grep r8192
and get the result
r8192se_pci 538978 0
I then did
#modprobe r9192se_pci
I configured the wlan in Yast>Network Settings>Wlan0 and am using the Traditional method with ifup.
I find that not using the traditional method is better when using wireless.
I am able to scan for networks in yast, and selected my network and typed in the security code. But it doesn't bring up the internet after the yast module closes.
I tried then to use the User controlled with NetworkManager option. I can start knetworkmanager before I switch to "User Controlled with Network Manager," and I see the knetworkmanager icon in the kicker panel. After I switch to "User...Network Manager" from "Traditional...ifup" everything on the yast network settings panel grays-out, and the kicker panel taskbar Network Manager icon goes away and is not visible anymore.
I wonder if, after enabling the NetworkManager method in Yast, you should log out/in. Maybe it only starts when it is enabled when you log in.
What happens in the KNetworkManager when you select from the system tray? There is a tick mark to enable wireless there. After you do that, the access points that are found should be displayed.
My laptop currently requires me to run "knetworkmanager" manually. Haven't tried to troubleshoot yet. Greg -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
