Guys, I'm not sure what to make of the following segfault error message. For some reason gnome-settings-daemon is segfaulting when it is started as part of the gtk-qt config in kde3. The error is: May 13 12:03:13 alchemy gconfd (david-28487): starting (version 2.22.0), pid 28487 user 'david' May 13 12:03:13 alchemy gconfd (david-28487): Resolved address "xml:readonly:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.mandatory" to a read-only configuration source at position 0 May 13 12:03:13 alchemy gconfd (david-28487): Resolved address "xml:readwrite:/home/david/.gconf" to a writable configuration source at position 1 May 13 12:03:13 alchemy gconfd (david-28487): Resolved address "xml:readonly:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults" to a read-only configuration source at position 2 May 13 12:03:13 alchemy gconfd (david-28487): Resolved address "xml:readonly:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.vendor" to a read-only configuration source at position 3 May 13 12:03:13 alchemy gconfd (david-28487): Resolved address "xml:readonly:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.schemas" to a read-only configuration source at position 4 May 13 12:03:21 alchemy kernel: gnome-settings-[28480]: segfault at 7f3e042e7da1 ip 7f3e0b6d4f90 sp 7fffd8cc4a38 error 4 in libc-2.8.so[7f3e0b658000+14f000] May 13 12:03:22 alchemy kernel: gnome-screensav[28520] general protection ip:7f7d9073232b sp:7fffc40b8570 error:0 in libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0.1200.9[7f7d906e8000+96000] May 13 12:03:43 alchemy gconfd (david-28487): GConf server is not in use, shutting down. Also, the command line error from starting gnome-settings-daemon is: 12:15 alchemy:~> /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon & [1] 28671 12:15 alchemy:~> CRTC 90 Timestamp: 41399572 Output 91 Timestamp: 41399572 CRTC 90 Timestamp: 41399572 Output 91 Timestamp: 41399572 Shutdown failed or nothing to shut down. Is this a problem with: libc-2.8.so, or libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0.1200.9, or xklavier.c ? The biggest questions is why does it start fine in gnome, but die when started under kde? These problems with gnome-settings-daemon in kde are always a bear for me, so if you have any ideas, I welcome them. I can't stand the look of firefox or thunderbird without the settings daemon running. Thanks. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.
