After more investigation, the problem appears after gnome-settings-daemon is started. So gnome guys, what to check?
The problem ended up being a bug with the way gnome in 11.0 handles root logins. I had logged into gnome to check a permissions problem and had set the cursors theme for root. Somehow that gets applied to all (almost all) gtk apps for every user of the system. Logging in as root and changing the cursor to Azenis at least sets the Azenis theme for users in kde now. That is a 'HACK' because the problem/bug is not fixed, it's just bandaided to get a consistent cursor theme. Anybody got any ideas on how to fix this problem so if I change cursors again, I don't have to login to gnome as root and change the cursor there as well? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.
