Guys,
This one is just weird. I have the 'Azenis' cursor theme set in just about all desktops. It's a great cursor theme, consistent and well placed hot-spot, good precision cursor, etc.... All has been working well. Now however, in kde, if I'm over kde apps, I get the correct Azenis theme, but, if I move the mouse over firefox, thunderbird, or other... non-kde package, the cursor changes. (I can't really generalize with 'gtk' app because gimp has the right cursor).
Even weirder, right now I'm in kde3 on 11.0, if I put the cursor over the window decoration on this thunderbird email, the cursor is fine, but if I move the cursor down to the menu bar, the cursor changes to another theme. How?
I have read some thread about this being a problem in 2008 after an Xorg update. Have we had a regression? Checking .Xdefaults, the default cursor was listed as tronnix, which shouldn't be, but I do have a tronnix theme on my box. Also, checking .kde/share/config/startupconfig, I have kcminputrc_mouse_cursortheme="Azenis", which is correct.
So, umm..., what gives? What else to check?
After more investigation, the problem appears after gnome-settings-daemon is started. So gnome guys, what to check? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.
