Solved! It was the damn SATA cable attached to the DVD writer; to add salt to injury it came bundled in the box with the Intel motherboard.
Replaced it with a no brand name cable and no COMRESET messages.

I have a scrap SATA drive thanks to the cable connections being so poor 1TB of door stop am i amused i would say not ..
