For this kind of 'execute a shell command' work, I use 'Link to Application..' on the desktop with the 'Run in konsole' advanced option set. This creates a .desktop file with content as follows:
[Desktop Entry] Comment[en_GB]=Start Mysql Comment=Start Mysql Exec=/usr/bin/mysqld_safe -u root GenericName[en_GB]=Mysql GenericName=Mysql Icon=exec MimeType= Name[en_GB]=mysql.start Name=mysql.start Path= StartupNotify=true Terminal=true TerminalOptions=\s--noclose Type=Application X-DBUS-ServiceName= X-DBUS-StartupType=none X-KDE-SubstituteUID=false X-KDE-Username= X-SuSE-translate=true

Thanks for taking a look at this, Will! I tried the approach you suggest, and yes, it works. But it's not quite as elegant as using the konsole profiles. For one thing, using the profiles, I can control the appearance of the resulting console -- different colors for different commands. KDE 4 uses the profile approach to implement the Root Shell properties file. If this approach is failing for my other commands, then it may also fail sometimes for the Root Shell profile that comes with the system. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
