Guys, Kate snippets are broken and our new KDE has closed the bug as 'WON'T' WTF?? See: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=200935 Basically I have about 15-20 snippets effected that are now broken and it just blows my mind that the new KDE devs have closed the bug as WONT FIX. I have had a challenging time being diplomatic about it, because this is just BS. If you want working snippets for BASH, you have to install the KDE3 version of kate where the snippets work perfectly. For those who are not familiar with the issue, if your kate snippet contains the normal variable dereference or parameter substitution form of ${VARNAME}, kde4 kate strips the '${}' from your code when you insert the snippet. For those still scratching your head, here is an example: THE ORIGINAL SNIPPET: ## basic function to trim (or stip) the leading & trailing whitespace from a variable ## passed to the fuction. Usage: VAR=$(trimWS $VAR) trimWS() { [[ -z $1 ]] && return 1 strln="${#1}" [[ strln -lt 2 ]] && return 1 trimSTR=$1 trimSTR="${trimSTR#"${trimSTR%%[![:space:]]*}"}" # remove leading whitespace characters trimSTR="${trimSTR%"${trimSTR##*[![:space:]]}"}" # remove trailing whitespace characters echo $trimSTR return 0 } SNIPPET INSERTED BY KATE (double-click on snippet name) ## basic function to trim (or stip) the leading & trailing whitespace from a variable ## passed to the fuction.
