I DO agree about the bugs!! The openSUSE build of hplip, for example, is a bust! It won't find USB printers on a number of systems. At least it's broken on 11.2RC 2.
Until 11.2 the installation process auto-detected the printer(s) and gave you the chance to configure it/them at this stage.
In 11.2 you need to go to YaST/Hardware and ADD a printer in which case a scan is made to detect all the printers and the driver(s) loaded.
Yep......after setting it up in Yast, I ran HPLP again....STILL doesn't see it, so hplip IS "busted."
If I remember correctly, you are running the HP Photosmart 8650; I am running the 8450 model. Not a single problem in having it recognised.
Maybe you should plug in the USB cable? :-)
If it was you, then you'd have that problem. ;) And, no....it's a Pro. 8850. Yast had NO problem seeing it nor setting it up and printing to it.
