in fact I found a way around. I created a new th3 config and copied the prefs.js file from the old one, this saved me to reconf all the accounts. I had to re-enter the accounts passwd, though.
as all these are imap accounts,, I had then only to rebuild the indexes.
Hurrah! The problem's solved :-) . I suspected a password but didn't know that it stays around - but then, it makes sense if you keep reusing the same mail folder setup from one installation of oS to another.
however, I have old mails in archived in "local folders" and it will be more difficult to search them (using grep it's always possible)
You should be able to PRINT OUT to a FILE all those messages. I haven't done this for many years but the option is there - just choose Print>File.
