Today the network went down for the whole building. After about 1/2 hour people were able to use the internet again. So was I on my wireless laptop but I am still isolated on my wire (Ethernet) desktop. Both systems are running Linux/SuSE ..... Someone here suggested that Linux looses sone network infor which is written in a /etc system file whenever the network service is interrupted abruptly. Is that true ? I tried to reboot but nothing changed. Why the wireless system has not been affected ? How can I retrieve the lost piece of data ?
Thank you so much, Maura
If one machine is working that's a good start point in order to begin investigations :-) Check the wireless network configuration, especially the IP and DNS ones and then replicate it logically, on the wired machine. Other checks must be oriented from the very basic standpoints as: Physical connection from pc to router, switch, outlets... What is the connection device from wired pc toward the outside connection?
