Maybe because nobody really uses it anymore ?
Well, for the record, I have to. Grub doesn't work on my system at all. (openSUSE 11.1 32bit on x86_64 hardware w/ 2 750GB disks.) openSUSE 11.1 installation lead to an unbootable system, and also subsequent manual installation could not bring it to work. (And yes, I'm fairy knowledgable about x86 boot management. When I started to use Linux, ca. 0.99.4, one had to.) Dunno if Grub2 would have worked, lilo did it without any problems and was at least still on SUSE's distribution DVD, although not supported by SuSEconfig. At first this meant that I had to take a bit more care during kernel updates, no really big deal. Then kernel updates made impossible my usage of VMware Server 1 -- after that I stopped applying kernel updates at all...
