I've got two problems with Avidemux. I take a video that I've recorded off the TV.
In what codec? Try 'midentify ORIGINALFILE' or 'mplayer -quiet -identify -frames 0 ORIGINALFILE'.
OK, I'll try this. But I think that the TV video is an mpeg file. There are two files one ending in .ts and the other .idx.
Probably, the mplayer output will make sure what codec is used. The .idx could be different things (i.e. a subtitle-index).
When I open it the view is 624x480 (ie normal) and the sound is correct. BUT after I cut the unwanted stuff out and then save it the view is 544x576
How do you have avidemux configured? Do you have "Video" and "Audio" (on the left) set to 'Copy' or to something else? Do you have any filters activated (Video -> Filters)?
I changed the Video from copy to the first choice on the list (don't remember at the moment which it is)
MPEG-4 ASP (Xvid4)? Use the 'Filters' button below where you change the video codec, or use the menu Video->Filters or press shift+alt+F to check if and what filters are used. Note, that with the 'Copy' "Codec" no filters are applied at all. I don't know about a tool to check for the sound-async, but usually avidemux does it correct. You can shift the audio by a fixed time via Audio->Filters (or just check the box below the "Filters" button of the "Audio" section on the left and enter the appropriate value. This is also not applied with 'Copy', i.e. the problem probably already exists in the .ts.
