What for is gvfs used in openSUSE 11.1? Ie, what applications need it?
gnome-vfs does the corresponding stuff that the KDE IO Slaves do, i.e. provide a virtual "filesystem" for different not-really-a-filesystem things like ssh (fish://), Audio-CDs, and whatnot. No idea what is implemented in gnome-vfs/kio-slaves, as I use neither KDE nor Gnome. Oh, and most KDE / Gnome Apps need the kio / gnome-vfs base libraries.
