My experience is the older LED-based optical mice (usually very bright) are not susceptible to cat hair while the newer, low-power laser-based optical mice (some of them so low-power that it's hard to see the light at all, even when it _is_ in the visible spectrum) completely wig out if their's a cat (or other fine) hair in the aperture of the mouse.
Naa. Long haired cats are the worst.. ;-) Especiallly when he feels that the computer desk is the best place to sleep when I'm not on the computer. It's not just a few hairs that clog it.
