This machine is either not running, or it's dropping all tcp packets from you. or possibly your local firewall is dropping all packets from the server including those that come in response to packets you have sent to it, but I find this a less likely possibility, since you would have had to set it up manually It can't be a problem with "known_hosts" or any other ssh config on your side, because you simply never get that far. The TCP connection is never established My guess is that it's simply not running. Note that it's not enough for the machine to be running and sshd to have died, you would not see this effect. In this case you would get a TCP reset (connection refused), not a timeout. In this case the remote machine is not responding to you at all.
