Seeing that we are on the Smartd and failing HD topic. My semi-new Vostro 1700 is reporting the following:
Note the weird values for: 5 Reallocated_Sector_Ct 0x0033 100 100 024 Pre-fail Always - 8589934592000 ... 197 Current_Pending_Sector 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 280440922701826 198 Offline_Uncorrectable 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 68338629017603
Must I be concerned? Drive seems fine?
I don't think it means anything, but I can't figure out what the "raw" column values means. However, as the "when failed" column is empty, and the "value" is greater than "tresh", I guess it means nothing. However, this is absurd:
Vendor Specific SMART Attributes with Thresholds: ID# ATTRIBUTE_NAME FLAG VALUE WORST THRESH TYPE UPDATED WHEN_FAILED RAW_VALUE 9 Power_On_Hours 0x0032 095 095 000 Old_age Always - 167965 12 Power_Cycle_Count 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 791
167965 hours, and you said it is a new disk? doesn't make sense. Maybe there is a bug in smartd or the firmware of the disk.

Good sources of information about SMART is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-Monitoring,_Analysis,_and_Reporting_Techno.... So raw value say how many bytes is recognized as bad (this doesn't say how many can disc relocate anymore). -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
