OK, I figured out that I need the X11, but I guess I'm a bit slow,
where do I edit the settings for this?
Out of all of the video output drivers, x11 is the slowest. The
preferred order of choice (I am omitting framebuffers here) is xv, gl2,
gl, x11. I am suprised that your card does not support xv. What is the
output of "xvinfo"?

I get this when I do xvinfo:

X-Video Extension version 2.2
screen #0
no adaptors present

Yea, I get that too ...

when I run xvinfo under kterminal 1.2 under kde4.1.3 running on X11/xorg
on a ATI/AMD radeon adapter that is configured as ...

... screen #0

I think some of us are making different suppositions here.
