option is probably to either create .pdfs & combine them, or insert
document objects in the first spreadsheet pages.

Actually, it has been a common feature of Office since - afaik - Office
97. It is called Master Document.

I just tried a Master Document in OOo as well. It works to add any type
of file in a Open Office document.
