Today I installed a SuSE 11.1 dual-boot setup on a server that formerly ran just Windows Server 2008. The idea was, a dual-boot would preserve the existing functionality; in case anything went wrong with the Linux part, I could reboot into Server 2008 and keep on working. Everything went great EXCEPT for joining the corporate domain. I have privileges to join machines to the domain, but it's always been Windows machines of one kind or another. To my knowledge, nobody has ever joined a Linux machine to our AD domain. I used the YaST module for Network Services->Windows Domain Membership, and things seemed to be going well until I tried to actually join. I provided my domain user name as username@domain.com, and provided my domain password. The error said something about "unable to find a suitable server," or words to that effect. I know the NICs are configured correctly, and I have connectivity. In fact, I used VirtualBox to create an XP-Pro VM, and was able to join the new VM to the domain without any drama, so I'm at a loss to understand why I can't join the server itself the domain. Samba server and client are installed. Has anyone else run into a situation like this and found a solution? Thanks in advance for any help with it!
