For Toshiba laptops and others requiring the madwifi driver and the ath_pci module to work, I have a solution for openSuSE 11.1.

Or, try doing what I did. Just use the ath5k module with your existing (ex- madwifi) configuration. If you're seeing this message, it's working fine on my Toshiba Satellite P35.
What DIDN'T work for me, was the new entry that 11.1 wrote into my configuration. I just deleted that, and reconfigured my old settings, using ath5k instead of ath_pci.
Jerry, I never thought of looking at the problem that way before. I had always presumed that the network devices generated by yast/openSuSE were correct and would work. I have been through every single setting in the standard ath5k based ath0 or wlan0 device created by openSuSE and I have never been successful in getting the device to work under the Toshiba P35 or P205D. It wasn't until I had installed a madwifi package that provided the ath_pci module that I was able to either change ath5k to ath_pci and change wlan0 to ath0 in the original device, or to create a new device and use ath_pci with ath0 that I ended up with a working wifi in both cases. When I created a new ath0 device, I would always delete the one created by yast originally. I had never simply created a new device and tried to setup a new ath5k device and configuring it with the same settings that just resulted in failure. That just seemed counter-intuitive after having just tried every possible setting with the original ath5k device. Who knew? I'll have to give it a try next time. Thanks. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.
