I have 11.1, KDE4, installed on a Toshiba P35 laptop that has something like a 14-way card reader built in. I'd love to be able to read photos from an SD card, so I can import them into DigiCam without needing the camera and USB cable attached.
When I insert a card, though, nothing happens. Autofs is running, but apparently it doesn't automatically mount an SD card. Does anyone know where I should look for a way to turn on mounting cards that are inserted?
I haven't found anything in YaST, and I'm hoping I don't need to mount it with the partitioner. There's probably an incantation to do it using bash, but I don't want to experiment and possibly erase the contents.
You do not like the commandline? For Shame. :^) But the commandline is your savior. Open an xterm window and type (w/o the quotes) "dmesg", do not hit return or pass go or collect $200. Insert your sd card into the reader, then with the cursor in the xterm window, hit <return>. You should be able to see lines indicating the systems recognition of your sd card, report that here. If nothing appears to indicate your sd card was recognized, then it was not and the reader device is most likely not configured for your system. Again the commandline comes to rescue. In an xterm window type (again w/o the quotes) "/usr/sbin/hwinfo | less" and <return>. You will be presented with a comprehensive list of the devices present/recognized in your system where you can look for the card reader. A search for reader may be the fastest way, (again w/o the quotes) "/ reader" <return>. gud luk, and think more highly of the commandline :^) -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
