Ive upgraded one of my laptops to v11.0. Yast Hardware Information finds the ACX 111 54Mpbs Wireless Interface. However, when I attempt to configure the card Yast Network Settings finds the card, but the IP address is not configured. The message at the bottom of the screen tells me that:
Unable to configure the network card because the kernel device (eth0, wlan0)is not present. This is mostly caused by missing firmware (for wlan devices).
I'll be watching for the answer to this, as well. I have a PCMCIA "n"-class wireless card that I never was able to use with 11.0, but I thought I'd try again, and see if it's supported in 11.1. In fact, the card is recognized, but when I click on it in the configuration dialog, I see that same message. I can select it, but not do anything with it, because the [Edit] button isn't enabled. At first, I thought it was because 11.1 had installed its own Atheros entry in the list, and copied my earlier configuration to it. It was called ath0, but could not be started. My original entry was renamed to wlan0 and its configuration removed. So I thought that perhaps the error was because wlan0 was already in use. But after removing the one that 11.1 installed, I renamed my original back to its original name, ath0, making wlan0 once again available for use. Or so I thought. Nothing came of it, though. It still errs in exactly the same way. I'm actually fairly pleased that the internal "g"-class wireless card works with the new ath5k module. But at times, e.g., if I have large files to transfer, it would be nice to be able to use the faster card. Is it possible that only one wireless card can be configured at a time? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
