Non-ssh implementation of remote access to the X server(s). Most x programmer know about xhost +hostname and the "Can't open display". SuSE linux has a little different thing for security I found after a time with Google I found that /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager needed a DISPLAYMANAGER_XSERVER_TCP_PORT_6000_OPEN="yes" To get that to work. So I went on with my job.... I am now setting up the terminal server like machine for my embeeded devices to connect to. I have them so they can all login but I can not get the xwindow pop's from my applications. I discovered this is a problem even for the sample X programs so it is not just my app. I then discovered it is a problem even when the users are all on the same machine??? I have done this before on Solaris but Linux is a little new to me. Both users on the same machine via "switch user": hostname is unix echo $DISPLAY is :0.0 from the second login: xeyes -display unix:0.0 # works! (first login has xhost + !) echo $DISPLAY is :1.0 from the first login: xeyes -display unix:1.0 # DOES NOT WORK? (second login has xhost + also) I get error: Can't open display ......... On the second login (unix:1.0) I also tried a few things: xeyes -display :1 #works! Xeyes -display :1.0 #works Xeyes -display unix:1 # does not work Xeyes -display unix:1.0 # does not work?? And of course from another machine xeyes/xterm does not work either. SuSE 11.0 +online patches. KDE3 (KDE4 is WAY to slow for use yet)....... Any thoughts? Anyone ever use SuSE linux multiuser on the same machine? Many thanks in advance for suggestions..
