When I read the rest of this thread, I saw unfounded conjecture and a tendency to assume that KDE and openSUSE don't care about long term, loyal users' needs. I don't really understand why. We are aware of KDE 4's current shortcomings, and we've tried harder than any other distro to make sure that KDE 3 remains a viable alternative while we work to resolve them. The sky isn't falling!
'Glad to hear that. ;) PART of the problem is that there have been some who've given us snotty responses to criticisms, which is GOING to happen when one takes something as polished as KDE 3.5, replace it with a new version that is radically different and sorely lacking, and further tell us we have to live with. NONE of use are that hard to get along with, well maybe Basil is the exception :),
WATCH IT, Fred! Just watch it! :-) In the very early 90's I ran a BBS. The author of the software was a brilliant man and came up with a number of firsts in the world re software innovations. One day I upgraded the BBS only to find (the users found it first!) that suddenly there was no keyboard support to be able to use the system. BIG screams of angst from everyone. I go to the author to point out that a bug suddenly came into the system -- but his response was that it was not a bug but a feature. WHY?! I asked. The reply was that one has to look to the future, and that the author did not use the keyboard but only the mouse to use the system and he therefore saw no reason why others shouldn't use the mouse- so he removed the keyboard support. So, when I read all this "rant" about KDE4 with it's bling and its loss of functionality compared to KDE3 I automatically go Back To The Future to the early 90's and say to myself, "Been there, done that".
