OK, I've narrowed the problem down to Apparmor. It is preventin
fusermount from functioning properly. Unfortunately I've been unable
to come up with an fusermount profile that will work. I've created
and recreated, deleted and updated every way I can think of and I
still get the "Operation not permitted" error from fusermount through
truecrypt.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Actually I haven't tried any "odd" options on the device. fusermount doesn't seem to have too many options anyway. I guess I'm not terribly comfortable with fuse. LUKS uses device-mapper; I understand how that works. Fuse and fusermount are still a bit of a mystery to me.

Follow-up I worked with AppArmor for a long time last night with no luck. Same problem when executing the mount from Truecrypt...
Have you looked at the mount options? It is possible that the options do not allow you to execute commands on that drive.
