Hello,
Thank you for all of your feed back. I have three machines that I will compare. Machines 1 & 2 have no problems. Machine 3, however, is slow whether it is writing to a single disk or a RAID50 with 24 drives. File System on all machines is XFS. Machine 3 has a fresh OS install on new equipment.
***Machine 1*** -- 8 cpu's -- test done on single drive. -- No problems here. model name : Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5310 @ 1.60GHz stepping : 11 cpu MHz : 1600.049 cache size : 4096 KB
Using 'cp' to copy a 17GB file over the network.
You are actually copying the file over the network? If so, you need to look at the network as well - I've recently moved a fileserver from one box to another, and the network is giving me grief. I've pretty much narrowed it down to being the NIC, but I haven't had time replace it yet. The NFS mounted filesystems are very slow; running a tcpdump I see messages like these: 09:49:28.278327 IP 192.168.2.91.2049 > 192.168.2.114.1970482795: reply ERR 1448 09:49:28.278362 IP 192.168.2.91.2049 > 192.168.2.114.1701064290: reply ERR 1448 -- /Per Jessen, Zürich -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
