One more bit of information for you about the past 2 ATI driver releases, including the latest. The performance seems to be getting worse instead of better. Specifically, Under the 8-9 (8.532) release with compositing enabled and with Compiz: 01:16 alchemy~> glxgears 4921 frames in 5.0 seconds = 984.039 FPS 4987 frames in 5.0 seconds = 997.335 FPS 4986 frames in 5.0 seconds = 997.004 FPS 4986 frames in 5.0 seconds = 997.194 FPS 4987 frames in 5.0 seconds = 997.316 FPS Under the 8-10 (8.542) and 8-11 (8.552 - built on 10.3), under the same conditions, with the same xorg.conf the frame rates are cut nearly in half. Same box, same everything except the driver version: [22:23 alchemy/usr/src/linux] # glxgears 2700 frames in 5.0 seconds = 539.915 FPS 2500 frames in 5.0 seconds = 499.684 FPS 2500 frames in 5.0 seconds = 499.995 FPS 2499 frames in 5.0 seconds = 499.795 FPS 2499 frames in 5.0 seconds = 499.796 FPS I reinstalled the 8-9 driver and it's working fine. -- David C.
