Code Weavers is the for cash version of wine. I've never used either, so this is just an FYI, not a recommendation.
For details of the giveaway see: http://arstechnica.com/journals/apple.ars/2008/10/27/codeweavers-software -free-tomorrow-tuesday-october-28 Unfortunately, it appears to be only available to Americans. :-(
That's why <insert diety here> created proxies!

I've been using Crossover for several years. Works great with many apps. Photoshop and Visio 2002 are the only things I have a headache with.

In fact, Word XP and Excel XP both open documents faster than does OpenOffice.
Kai, all, I tried crossover with office 2007 and it worked fine, but the font rendering in crossover looked terrible. Compared to the full XP install with office 2007 in virtualbox, the disk space savings was great, but the visual aspect wasn't so great. If I were disk space limited, or memory limited, crossover looks like a good solution. If it's not, I like the virtualbox solution. Everything just looks better and there are no possibilities of software compatibility issues. Thanks for the links! -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E.
