Well, if you read further into it, one might suggest that moving to KDE 3.0 was a bad idea. After all, "KDE 3 for 7.3 isn't up to normal SuSE standards."
It's not a question of "not being up to the standards", it's a matter of conception. So far (and from what I can judge, I'm not a programmes) KDE 4 goes the same way as Vista and OS X Panther when it comes to overloading with useless gimmicks.
"Useless gimmicks" are the opiate of the masses. Let's face it - most people don't want an ugly boring desktop. I love the way Vista (with Aero) looks and really like the look and feel of KDE 3 and KDE 4. I'd like to get Compiz running, but can't seem to. (And I don't have time to fiddle with it.)
The file manager also is (almost) as stupid as Microsoft's and Apple's.
I'll reserve judgment on Dolphin until I use it more. However, I very much like the Vista Explorer. In fact, it has some features I'd like to see in Konqueror (and vice versa). I would like to see those iconlets surrounding the icons disappear on the desktop, but that's minor. The OSX Finder doesn't seem much different than the one used by Apple 4.x days. It is actually very intuitive and shelters the user from most of the hardcore system details.
I don't want to go the KDE 4 way, so I have to find another desktop that suits my needs.
