Try playing the files with, mplayer -vo x11 <filename> from commandline and report back.
Odd, then, Mplayer can play the video. It generates a lot of output in the Konsole window:
So does it display anything? Blue screen? nothing?
Yes, like I said above, then Mplayer plays the video. Like it should, I meant. So normal picture, normal sound. I can just watch it.

This looks suspect? Will research a bit.
I agree it looks suspect...but I have no idea what it's talking about ;-)
Forward some machine specs (video card, X driver, etc)
Machine is a HP Compaq nc6320 notebook, with an Intel 945 GM Mobile graphics card, 3D acceleration not enabled, screendepth is 24bit, LCD monitor is running 1024X768@75HZ, xorg.conf says this: Section "Device" BoardName "945 GM" BusID "0:2:0" Driver "intel" Identifier "Device[0]" Option "monitor-LVDS" "Monitor[0]" Screen 0 VendorName "Intel" EndSection Hope that tells you a bit more. Thanks for helping me out with this!
