Using my default linux (not suse),
grub> find /boot/grub/stage1 (hd0,2) (hd0,7) (hd0,8) (hd0,9) (hd0,10)
Suse 11 is on (hd0,11)
Didn't find stage1.
I used partedmagic to do the same and it located stag1 at (hd0,11) suse 11.
Sounds to me like you ran into inode incompatibility. Your SUSE 11 hd0,11 is probably formatted ext3 using the new default 256 inodes, while the old standard and your default Linux only understands the old 128 inodes. You'll probably have to use the SUSE 11 install DVD to reinstall the boot loader from SUSE 11 that understands 256. Old Grub won't find stage1 or anything else on a 256 inode partition. Alternatively, you could reinstall SUSE 11 and specify 128 inode format on your 11.0 / partition. -- "Love is not easily angered.
