I must be looking in the wrong place b/c i do not see anywhere to to make a custom install. I go into yast->hardware->graphics card and monitor. Then click on change for the monitor and in the resulting box i do not see where to make custom except to enter display size and sync frequencies.

Or, to make backup of /etc/X11/xorg.conf and run init 3 sax2 -r from text mode (Ctrl-Alt-F1). Don't forget to save you current work in GUI, as after 'init 3' current work is gone. If you have nvidia or ati than sax2 line should have ' -m 0=nvidia' or ' -m 0=fglrx' added after '-r' parameter.
I have nvidia geforce 8400
Maybe the easiest way is to edit xorg.conf. Removing most of the lines from Monitor and Modes sections, leaving only Identifier strings should work, but it is easier to do that, than to explain, if you post it :-)
Here are the parts of xorg.conf:
Now changed: Section "Monitor" Identifier "Monitor[0]" Option "PreferredMode" "1680x1050" UseModes "Modes[0]" EndSection Section "Modes" Identifier "Modes[0]" EndSection Section "Screen" DefaultDepth 24 SubSection "Display" Depth 16 Modes "1680x1050" "1600x1024" "1600x1000" "1400x1050" "1280x1024" \ "1440x900" "1280x960" "1366x768" "1280x800" EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Depth 24 Modes "1680x1050" "1600x1024" "1600x1000" "1400x1050" "1280x1024" \ "1440x900" "1280x960" "1366x768" "1280x800" EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Depth 8 Modes "1680x1050" "1600x1024" "1600x1000" "1400x1050" "1280x1024" \ "1440x900" "1280x960" "1366x768" "1280x800" EndSubSection Device "Device[0]" Identifier "Screen[0]" Monitor "Monitor[0]" EndSection Section "Device" BoardName "GeForce 8400 GS" BusID "2:0:0" Driver "nvidia" Identifier "Device[0]" Option "SaXDualHead" Option "TwinView" Option "SaXDualMonitorVendor" "HP" Option "SaXDualOrientation" "RightOf" Option "MetaModes" "1680x1050,1680x1050;1600x1024,1600x1024; \ 1600x1000,1600x1000;1400x1050,1400x1050;1280x1024,1280x1024; \ 1440x900,1440x900;1280x960,1280x960;1366x768,1366x768;1280x800,1280x800" Option "SaXDualResolution" "1680x1050" Option "TwinViewOrientation" "RightOf" Option "SaXDualMode" "Xinerama" Option "SecondMonitorVertRefresh" "48-76" Option "SaXDualHSync" "24-83" Option "SaXDualMonitorModel" "HP w2207" Option "SaXDualVSync" "48-76" Screen 0 VendorName "NVIDIA" EndSection
If you plan to buy new card today than you can leave all this until you have all connected.
Bought a new card and installed it and got it working, i believe. Even setup both monitors. Just want to get the right monitors now in sax. Thanks for your help.
I cut out modes below 1280x800. When you copy back multiple lines that I marked with \ make them one line, ie. remove space, backslash and new line characters. That should be enough, but if you run sax2 again without '-r' parameter, it will use data stored in /var/cache/sax/ files to restore last "good" configuration. If it is using that anyway than it is time for bug report to see what developers think about that feature. There can be more options that can be deleted. You can find what options are not used in /var/log/Xorg.0.log (and any errors, also). Again, take time to backup working xorg.conf before any changes. -- Regards, Rajko http://en.opensuse.org/Portal needs helpful hands. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
