Hi all,
I've recently set up a system with 11.0 with software RAID - /, /boot, /home and swap on different RAID1 partitions - and I cannot boot the system from the hard disk. There is no error message, just a flashing cursor after the basic bios information. I CAN boot from the DVD, select "boot from hard disk" and all works well - but I'd rather not have to do this.
< snip > OK, I can now boot from the RAID array. I don't really understand what is different, it should have worked before. In the hope this may eventaully help someone else, here is what I did. 1) create another partition (sda7) outside of the RAID ararry 2) mount it (to /mnt) and copy the contents of /boot to the new partition. 3) install the GRUB boot loader to this new partition (/dev/sda7). 4) Under Yast -> System -> Boot Loader -> Boot Loader Installation select custom boot partition and point it to /dev/sda7 5) modify /etc/fstab so that /boot gets mounted to /dev/sda7 instead of /dev/md0. Reboot -> System boots fine. Then... 6) Undo step 5) above -> booting works fine??? 7) Undo step 4) above -> booting works fine??? 8) Undo steps 3)-1) above (by deleting /dev/sda7) ----> Booting Works Fine *?* So as far as I can tell, I am back where I started, except that it seems to be working now. Better than the other way around I suppose :-) -- Don -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
